Let’s Work Together!
Dr. Brian Zelt is a Registered Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists bringing over 25 years of experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families. Dr. Zelt earned his Ph.D. from the University of Calgary in Educational Psychology with a focus in Community Counselling and has supported clients in diverse settings including private practice, employee and family assistance programs, and not-for-profit organizations serving vulnerable children, adolescents, and families.
Dr. Zelt offers individual and family counselling for a wide range of concerns including anxiety, depression, self-harm, stress, anger management, self-confidence, work-life balance, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, separation and divorce, parenting, adoption, bullying, parent-child conflict, life transitions, and family of origins issues.
Dr. Zelt’s counselling style draws from a number of treatment and theoretical approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Attachment Theory, Solution-Focused Therapy, Humanistic Existentialism, Developmental Psychology, Family Systems Theory, and Trauma-Informed Care.
With decades of experience, Dr. Zelt has witnessed the remarkable capacity for growth and resilience in individuals and families. He believes that most challenges in life arise from coping strategies that are no longer effective in meeting current demands, rather than the result of personal deficiencies or breakdowns. Dr. Zelt further believes that we are all purposeful creatures and nothing that we do is arbitrary. Therefore, when faced with the challenges of life, most people take them head-on with whatever coping skills or resources they believe to be advantageous at the time. Unfortunately, some of these coping skills or resources are not sufficient to manage the intensity or complexity of the problem experienced. Other times, it is previous life experiences, fears, or other competing motivations that get in the way of adequately responding to the task at hand.
As a Registered Psychologist, Dr. Zelt is committed to helping clients identify and overcome these challenges, and to discover new coping strategies that enhance resilience and strengths in children, adults, and families.
Dr. Zelt looks forward to meeting you!
